Our surroundings

We just want to let you know that there are plenty of good hikes in the area, both long and short ones, and we can tell you all about them when you get here. Upon arrival we would recommend you to relax in the garden or by the seaside, perhaps find yourself a  spot somewhere between the fjord and surrounding mountains. Enjoy a glass of our local apple produce,  observe the changes in the colors of the fjord and listen to the sound of the passing birds and bees. We recommend to take it slow while you`re here. Enjoy our sauna, take a dip in the fjord, row our old wooden boat or take a trip with our SUP boards. Let go of the city. Just be.

Row, row, row your boat...

When staying at the lodge borrow our boat and glide onto the fjord. No better way to soak in the stunning scenery than in an old traditional wooden rowing boat.

Hike: Bondhus glacier/Bondhus lake (all year)

Bondhusbrea and Bondhusvatnet have been a popular destination since the mid-1800s, and it has not become less popular over the years. The colors of the lake, the unique landscape and the background in the background mean that the Bondhusdalen sails as one of the most beautiful valley in Norway. An easy walk suitable for everyone.

Yoga weekend at the lodge

A warm welcome to the majestic fjords and to a yoga weekend at the lodge together with Ivrigcamp.no

The historic Folgefonna crossing

The "tourist road over Folgefonna"  has amused tourists for hundreds of years. "Tourist Road over Folgefonna" is a historic walking route and starts right outside our door here at Hardanger Fjord Lodge.

Glacier kayak

Paddle on a clear blue glacier lake in the area. The glacier extends into the water, any you would need to go with a guide who have knowledge about the glacier. Contact Folgefonni breførarlag for more information.

Ski Touring/ Randonnée (March-June)

We take you to the hidden treasures in the Hardanger Fjord area. Bring your own ski touring equipment or let us know in advance if you need to rent. Glacier tours ( June-Sept)

Together with an experienced glacier guide, you can explore the Folgefonna glacier by foot or with skis. Multiple day trips are possible.

Fonna Glacier Ski Resort (May 1st - October)

Fonna is one of Europe's leading summer ski centers, located 1200 meters above sea level on the glacier Folgefonna in the heart of Hardanger.  Enjoy the slopes, park or cross country opportunities with a beautiful view. Fonna is usually open between end of April until end of September.

Hike: Trolltunga ( April - Nov)

With or without skis. Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is situated about 1100 meters above sea level. The view is breathtaking. The hike starts in Skjeggedal and goes through the high mountains. The hike takes about 10 hours back and forth, including shorter breaks (28 km in total to Trolltunga and return).

Hike: The Pilgrim walk (July-October)

The Pilgrim walk is a beautiful, historical hike starting in Krossdalen above Jondal. Parts of the trail has recently been layed by sherpas from Nepal, and the view from the top is really rewarding. The hike is 14 km (when starting in Krossdalen),  and you follow the footsteps of ancient pilgrims. This is a demanding hike, with steep ascent and decent. You might come across snow, so bring proper footwear.

Hike: Melderskin - the queen of the Rosendal Alps

This challenging (rated black) hike has it all. Starting from above the beautiful village of Rosendal, taking you through a variety of landscape such as juniper forest, steep hillsides, sherpa steps and plateaus with breathtaking views along the way. When reaching the top (1426 m above sea level) you will be rewarded with stunning views of the fjord, the glacier and the surrounding alpine mountains. Sit down and enjoy your lunch (remember to bring one), and hope for an eagle to drift by. Definitely one of our favorite hikes in the area.
